You've got this. You'll be so much happier out of the swamp.

The biggest problem you'll face is getting a Visa. However, the UK is now separate from Europe, so I agree you should think about settling in the EU.

You can overstay your Visa, but if you get caught, there could be consequences, like being deported and banned from the EU for seven years.

I know people who have done it, and they just kept a low profile and stayed away from places like the UK and Switzerland, where they count the stamps in your passport. After a time, though, they returned to the United States. You won't be doing that except to visit.

When I was in Barcelona, they would grant health care to people over 60 even if they were not legal residents. That went away as too expensive, but they now have retirement visas available for people who want to live there but not work there and who have outside income from pensions or investments. You must buy the Health Insurance that residents get for free or cheap.

EU passports are for sale if you make a big enough investment in the EU by starting a business and employing EU residents. This path is only for the wealthy, for whom most laws do not apply.

I am uncertain if you can open a bank account with just your passport. Ten years ago, you could do that, but who knows what the law is now.

The best thing I heard someone do is to go to an immigration lawyer who arranges marriages of convenience. In most of the EU, same-sex marriage is legal. There are EU citizens who will marry you for money. It costs many thousands to pull off, but still less than starting a business.

The lawyer does the paperwork and preps you both for any interviews so that you can pass as a committed couple. You agree to stay married for the requisite number of years, then the lawyer does your divorce, and you keep the EU citizenship. And make your money back after a time by returning the favor and marrying for money a non-EU citizen who wants to live there. I don't even think it is illegal.

If you have special skills in demand, you can get an EU company to sponsor you, but if you ever leave that job, you have 90 days to leave the country if you cannot find a new sponsor.

I agree with you. America is a failing country. It will soon be like Mexico, where 95% of the wealth is held by 5% of the people. Unfortunately, most Americans are not well informed or educated to see what is coming down the tracks. So public goods to them are "free stuff for lazy poor colored people" or "radical left-wing socialism." They are so easily conned and manipulated.

America and Russia are more the same than different; Russia is merely ahead of us in getting their fascist Trump-style dictatorship up and running. Plus, Putin is a lot more intelligent than the Orange Clown.

There is just too much wrong in America, and no politician is willing enough and charismatic enough to push a genuinely progressive agenda. Honest politicians could fix the situation, but sadly, it won't be fixed because Washington politicians are more concerned with their reelection than the country's future. With few exceptions, they're all for sale to the highest bidder.

Sad, more so for my grandchildren than for my kids or me. The GOP has already gerrymandered enough districts to turn six districts red. Partisan gerrymandering means the House goes Republican even if the Democrats in total in the House represent more actual people.
