Very enjoyable article, but America has a huge problem opening its eyes and mind to the rest of the world.

65% of Americans do not possess and have never possessed a passport.

Lots of reasons why. The sheer size, natural beauty and diversity of America. Why go all the way to the Alps when we have the Rockies?

The older generation still operates on the perception that international travel is much more expensive the domestic travel. Which these days, is simply not true.

Then there is the issue of languages. With the diversity of countries in the EU, kids grow up knowing multiple languages; Americans are generally monolingual.

There is also often an underlying fear of the unknown.

But underneath all these more practical considerations is a false sense of America’s superiority in all things. Education, life expectancy, health care, transit, art, music, you name it and most Americans believe America is superior. But the data just doesn’t back up these mistaken beliefs.

So of course Parasite should be in English. America is #1. But people who think this way have never in their lives set foot in a country where English is not the predominate language. All they know of a foreign country is what they see in media. But seeing the Eiffel Tower on a bus tour with other Americans is not the same as experiencing Paris and living among the Parisians if only for a few days or weeks.

Americans sadly are simply geographically and sociopolitically illiterate. So they cannot discern the difference between Democratic Socialism and Communism. But they know they don’t want any of that Commie stuff in the Good Old U.S. of A. Even when you point out how much socialism already exists in America.

They cannot get their mind around the fact that the quality of life can actually be better in other countries.

Parasite is an immensely powerful and well crafted motion picture. There are so many layers to the story, it is worth multiple viewings. In Korean with subtitles.
