Rebecca, it is my understanding that if you renounce your US citizenship, you do NOT lose your rights to Social Security Retirement benefits.

People with Green Cards get Social Security even though they are not U.S. citizens.

There is one other country that taxes worldwide income and that is Colombia.

My understanding (limited) is paying taxes in one country can be deducted in the other. The real problem is the tax rules and tax rates are so varied around the world that in order to file, you need to hire expert accountants from a firm that specialize in ex-pat tax filings.

That kind of tax help doesn’t come cheap even for modest incomes.
