Bimbo's is an amazing venue, still standing and unchanged for more than 80 years. Going there for a concert is like going back in time. Bimbo's used to be "The Home of the Girl in the Fishbowl".

Before color TV, they used a periscope and a woman in a mermaid costume in the basement to create the illusion of a mermaid in a fishbowl waving at people in the club. Technology has taken the amazement out of that illusion. They only recreate it a few times a year for nostalgia, but the apparatus is still there.

My mother went to Bimbo's a decade before I was born. The night with Aimee Mann on stage was my first and last date with someone who wasn't the one for me.
