Let's for the moment imagine Putin is a Mafia Don. Surrounded by capos and hit men to do his bidding.

Now, as long as Putin's Mafia is only killing the other Mafia don across town to determine who controls the spoils of drugs, prostitution, truck hijacking, loan sharking, racketeering, and protection rackets, no one cares. It is just business, giving people what they want and controlling territory.

Now imagine Putin, the Mafia Don, blows up the nice McMansion of the other Don across town, killing his wife and children.

Does the recently widowed and childless Don do the same to Putin? Hell no. That is barbaric.

The other Don puts a huge price on Putin's head and makes sure the price is high enough that someone chops off the head of the snake.

Is there some general or guard or chef close enough to Putin to kill him and get away to collect the reward?

Worse case, the U.S. using surveillance and good inside intelligence, should know where Putin is all the time.

Instead of dropping bombs on Putin's army, why not drop some bombs on Putin's palace in such a way as to be 100% certain that he is dead.

If this situation in Ukraine was being run by the Mafia, killing the Godfather is precisely how the war would end.
